Anthea Specialty Coffees in 🇪🇸 Spain – Canary Islands

About The Farm

Anthea Café is a family-run specialty coffee farm located in Velhoco on La Palma, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. Founded in 2018, the farm is dedicated to producing high-quality Arabica coffee in an unusual European growing environment at 354 metres above sea level.

The farm is run by Jens Kimmel and Rosa María Pombrol, first-generation coffee producers who began their agricultural journey later in life. Jens travelled to Colombia to study at Tecnicafé and trained as a Q Processing Professional. Their goal is not to continue an existing tradition, but to create a new one.

Anthea Café cultivates Castillo and Geisha and produces washed and natural coffees. Processing methods include anaerobic fermentation, extended fermentation and thermal shock. The cherries are selectively hand-picked, and production focuses on highly limited micro- and nanolots.

The farm is certified organic, follows regenerative farming principles and operates its own nursery. Coffee grows alongside a diverse range of fruit trees, flowers and other plants, reflecting Jens and Rosa’s close connection to nature and biodiversity.

The coffees have achieved official cupping scores of up to 89.75 points and have already been presented at international trade fairs in Dubai, Athens, Copenhagen and Bangkok.

Through careful cultivation, precise processing and a pioneering spirit, Anthea Café is creating a new coffee tradition on La Palma.
