El Trapiche
Colombia – Tolima
About The Farm
El Trapiche is a family-run coffee farm located in the municipality of Herveo, in the northern part of Tolima, Colombia. Established in 2017, the farm covers 16 hectares, of which three hectares are currently dedicated to coffee cultivation.
The coffee grows at elevations between 1,700 and 2,000 metres above sea level. These high-altitude conditions, together with the natural environment of the region, support the production of distinctive Arabica coffees with a clear expression of their origin.
El Trapiche cultivates the Castillo and Colombia varieties. The coffee cherries are harvested by hand, with selective picking used to ensure that ripe cherries are chosen for quality-focused lots. The main harvest periods take place in April and May, followed by a second harvest in October and November.
The farm produces both washed and natural coffees. Traditional fermentation methods are used during processing, with careful attention paid to maintaining quality and developing balanced cup profiles. The coffees achieve cupping scores of approximately 84 points and are offered primarily as small lots of between five and twenty bags.
El Trapiche is led by Santiago Cárdenas, a young fifth-generation coffee producer. For Santiago, coffee is not only a family tradition, but also a way of connecting with nature and continuing to develop the quality of Colombian coffee.
As a family-run business, El Trapiche places particular importance on transparency, responsible relationships and a clear pricing model. The coffee is generally available directly at origin, and the farm is open to working directly with international buyers.
